Connect Slack

Connect UnitOps to your Slack workspace so your team receives alerts in a channel and can ask the AI assistant questions from Slack.

What you get​

  • Channel alerts - rules such as "Forecast ready for approval" or "Submit forecasts by end of day" post automatically to the channel you choose.
  • AI chat by DM - anyone can direct-message the UnitOps bot and ask about sales, labor, or forecasts.
  • AI chat in channels - @mention the bot in a channel so the whole team sees the answer.

No API keys, webhook URLs, or developer setup are needed. The install flow handles credentials for you.

Step 1: Connect your workspace​

  1. In UnitOps, go to Admin -> Channels.
  2. Find the Slack card and scroll to Connected Workspaces.
  3. Click Connect Workspace. You are redirected to Slack.
  4. Select your Slack workspace from the dropdown.
  5. Review the permissions and click Allow.

You are redirected back to UnitOps and the workspace appears in Connected Workspaces with its bot token stored securely.

If the connection fails, a red banner explains why and stays visible until you dismiss it, so you can copy the message for support.

What permissions are requested

Only what is needed to send messages, list channels, join channels, reply to DMs, and add reactions. UnitOps cannot read your private messages, access files, or change workspace settings.

Step 2: Choose the notification channel​

  1. On the workspace row, click the pencil icon to edit.
  2. Click Browse channels and pick the destination, for example #unitops-alerts.
  3. Click Save.

Invite the bot to that channel​

Slack requires bots to be members of a channel before they can post.

  1. Open the channel in Slack.
  2. Type /invite @UnitOps and press Enter.

Step 3: Send a test message​

  1. Hover over the workspace row and click the send icon (paper airplane).
  2. Check the Slack channel for a "UnitOps Connection Test" message within a few seconds.

Step 4: Re-connect a workspace​

If the token expires or is revoked:

  1. Click the pencil icon on the workspace row.
  2. Click Re-connect Workspace.
  3. Confirm, then authorize in Slack.

Your channel selection and settings are preserved; only the token is refreshed. You do not need to delete and recreate the workspace.

For personal DM alerts, each user does this once:

  1. Go to Settings -> Notifications.
  2. Click Link Slack Account.
  3. Authorize in the Slack popup.

After linking, personal alerts such as "Your forecast for Downtown needs review" arrive as DMs.

Using AI chat from Slack​

Direct message the bot:

What were yesterday's sales at Downtown?

@mention in a channel:

@UnitOps how does this week's labor forecast compare to last week?

The bot shows a thinking indicator, then replies with the answer plus charts and tables when relevant. Answers respect the asking user's location permissions.

Who can review these conversations

Channel conversations are readable by everyone in the channel, so admins can review them under Admin -> AI Conversations. A direct message with the assistant is private: it is shown there only to an owner or an admin, and to nobody else.

Manual connection (advanced)​

If your Slack org blocks the install flow, a platform admin can choose Manually add with a bot token on the Slack card and paste a bot token in the form xoxb-.... The token must have the scopes listed in the setup guide shown on the page. This option is not available to regular organization admins.
